RCVS Practice Standard Scheme
The scheme has been set up by the Royal College Of Veterinary Surgeons to set standards in order that you as a pet owner can be assured that an accredited practice meets stringent criteria to maintain the highest standards of veterinary care.
To become accredited, practices volunteer for rigorous inspection every four years and have to meet high standards of hygiene, care, CPD (continuing professional development), 24-hour emergency cover and a minimum of various types of equipment.
Special standards apply to the storage and supply of medication to ensure the best care for the patients but also for the staff dealing with the dispensing. The practice may also be subject to spot checks between inspections.
