Endoscopy & Cystoscopy

Endoscopy allows us to look inside a patient’s stomach, bowel, bladder or airways using a special camera. This enables us to diagnose stomach ulcers, see foreign bodies or obstructions for example and also allows us to take internal biopsies without having to perform more invasive surgery.

It is also beneficial for a patient to have their main airways examined this way when they have a chronic cough or when an underlying lung condition is suspected.

These procedures will always be performed under general anaesthesia.

Cystoscopy is similar to Endoscopy but it concerns imaging of the inside of the urinary tract and more particularly the bladder.
